Advice On Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is commonly dry, delicate and prone to allergic reactions. It is often thin and may also react easily to heat and cold, as well as some detergents and cosmetics.

The following advice may help:

  • Always protect your skin with sunscreen if you are outside, but avoid those containing fragrance or potential allergens.

  • Eat a balanced diet and keep your skin hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.

  • Avoid using lots of products and/or cosmetics on your skin, and make sure that those you do use are fragrance-free, hypo-allergenic and dermatologically tested. Bear in mind that a single fragrance may contain more than 600 synthetic chemicals, many of which may be allergens or irritants.

  • Try to wear cotton fabrics next to your skin and use cotton bed linen. Wool and synthetic fabrics can cause itchiness and irritation to sensitive skin.

There are plenty of products on the market which have been specially formulated for people with sensitive skin or eczema. Talkeczema have a useful directory section on their website where you can find the name of products and treatments suitable for sensitive skin conditions.
