Spring cleaning season is now in full swing, but something which is on-going all year round is the washing up pile! Laundry can be exhausting. If you let it get on top of you, the never-ending routine of sorting, washing, drying and folding can feel like a full time job in itself! However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Let us lighten the load a little with a few simple tricks to help you spend less time in the laundry room, and more time on the things which matter most.
Sort it out
However much time you currently spend sorting your laundry into different loads … you’re spending too long. Instead, consider investing in multiple laundry hampers – one each for whites, darks, and colours. Then every day when you get undressed, just toss your clothes into the appropriate hamper. This means that come laundry day, you can just toss the appropriate load into the machine – no more sorting!
2. Organise your station
One of the things that can make laundry seem such a chore is searching for everything you need beforehand. If you’ve abstained from doing the laundry because of this, don’t worry – you’re not alone! It’s actually human nature to put something off if extra steps are required. To combat this, keep everything you need (detergents, softener, vinegar etc) within arms reach of your washing machine.
3. Fast Folding
A trick to simplify the whole laundry process is to fold your clothes as soon as they’ve finished in the dryer. Not only does this mean that you won’t have a full laundry basket weighing on your conscience, it also means that your clothes won’t have time to wrinkle – drastically cutting down on that pesky ironing!
Instead of taking on all the work yourself, share the load! Don’t let your family lounge around watching TV while you struggle on by yourself. Any child over the age of 6 is old enough to put their own washing away, and there’s simply no excuse for your significant other not pulling their weight! Not only will this help you out, it has the added benefit of teaching your kids invaluable life skills, such as a sense of responsibility, from an early age.
